Girls Just Want to Have Fun: The Power of Positive Experiences

As the iconic Cyndi Lauper song goes, “Girls just want to have fun!” But it’s more than just a catchy tune – it’s a fundamental truth. Having fun is essential for girls’ emotional, social, and psychological development. Unfortunately, many girls from disadvantaged backgrounds often miss out on opportunities for fun and enrichment.

At GodStarr Ministries, we believe that every girl deserves to experience the joy and freedom of childhood. Our mission is to provide opportunities for girls who wouldn’t otherwise have access to them. We’re talking about summer camps, mentorship programs, and community events that foster connection, empowerment, and confidence.

Research shows that positive experiences like these have a profound impact on girls’ lives:

  • A study by the American Camp Association found that camp experiences can improve self-esteem, body image, and social skills in girls (Source: ACA, “Camp Experiences and Youth Development”)
  • The National Coalition of Girls’ Schools reports that girls who participate in extracurricular activities are more likely to develop leadership skills, build confidence, and pursue higher education (Source: NCGS, “The Benefits of Girls’ Schools”)
  • The Girls Inc. organization notes that girls who have positive role models and mentors are more likely to develop healthy relationships, pursue careers in STEM fields, and become leaders in their communities (Source: Girls Inc., “The Girls Inc. Experience”)

So, what can you do to help?
