At God Starr, we don’t just have a cute name—we have a BIG mission. Our name carries a lot of meaning, and we want to share the heart behind what STARR really stands for.
These five values guide everything we do—from mentorship and creative activities to outdoor adventures, meaningful conversations, and new experiences. They help the young people we serve grow, discover who they are, and see the possibilities ahead.
So what does STARR mean? Let’s break it down and show how each one comes to life in the God Starr world:
S is for Strength
Helping kids discover the strength they already have inside.
At God Starr, we believe every young person has strength—not just physically, but emotionally and mentally. Through encouragement, new experiences, and opportunities to try something new, we help kids discover what they’re capable of.
Strength looks like:
- Speaking up for yourself
- Trying something new, even if it’s scary
- Getting back up after a rough day
- Believing you are worthy of love, joy, and opportunity
T is for Trust
Building relationships that feel safe, honest, and real.
Trust is the foundation of everything we do. We want kids to know they can trust their mentors, youth leaders, friends, and themselves. We create welcoming spaces where they can be themselves, ask questions, try new things, and feel heard.
Trust shows up as:
- Being honest and knowing it’s okay
- Feeling safe to be yourself
- Learning to rely on others and let others rely on you
- Building friendships and meaningful connections
A is for Adventure
Because growing up should be fun, exciting, and full of discovery!
From Frisbee Golf and roller skating to art, nature, summer camp, and other adventures, we give kids opportunities to explore, play, create, and experience something new.
Adventure means:
- Being open to new experiences
- Letting yourself have fun
- Learning through play and curiosity
- Trying something you’ve never done before
- Laughing… a lot!
R is for Resilience
Helping kids keep going, grow through challenges, and discover they can do hard things.
Resilience isn’t about never falling—it’s about knowing you can get back up. We encourage kids to learn from mistakes, keep trying, and understand that hard days don’t define them.
Resilience looks like:
- Trying again after failing
- Staying hopeful during tough times
- Learning from the “oops” moments
- Knowing tomorrow is a fresh start
R is for Respect
Helping every young person know their worth and the value of others.
Every child is unique, with their own personality, experiences, talents, and potential. At God Starr, we believe every young person deserves to be treated with kindness, dignity, and respect.
We encourage kids to respect themselves, respect others, and appreciate the differences that make each person who they are.
Respect looks like:
- Treating others with kindness
- Listening to different perspectives
- Celebrating each person’s individuality
- Standing up for yourself and others
- Knowing that your voice and your story matter
The STARR in Every Young Person
We see Strength, Trust, Adventure, Resilience, and Respect in every young person we serve. Sometimes they just need someone to help them see it.
That’s where God Starr comes in.
We’re not here to “fix” kids. We’re here to support, encourage, inspire, and celebrate them.
Whether it’s through mentorship, new experiences, outdoor adventures, creative activities, or simply having a safe place to belong, we want every child to know they are valued and capable of great things.
